What Is Koa?
Hawaiian Koa (Acacia koa) is a remarkable wood that has been treasured by the people of Hawaii for centuries.
Traditionally used for outrigger canoes, paddles, boxes, and furniture, Koa is now highly valued worldwide as a premium tonewood for ukuleles and guitars.
It is known for its rich, warm tonal character and distinctive natural beauty.
The Rarity of Hawaiian Koa
Hawaiian Koa is a tree species native to Hawaii, with a naturally limited geographic range and a finite supply of harvestable timber.
Historical logging and changes in land use have affected Koa forests. High-quality lumber displaying exceptional curly figure is particularly rare and highly sought after.

Our Koa Grading System
Our grading system is based on decades of experience in the wood industry. We evaluate Hawaiian Koa primarily by the strength, depth, and visibility of its curly figure, providing a consistent reference to help customers compare and select lumber.

Moisture Content & Drying
Some of our lumber comes from naturally fallen trees or logs that have been drying for extended periods after harvesting. Moisture content varies from piece to piece. Some lumber may be ready for processing, while other pieces may require additional drying or acclimatization.
Careful drying and gradual moisture adjustment help minimize the risk of checking, cracking, and warping.
